Taken off thyroid pills, feel better now
- asked:
I used to take synthroid, I started about a year and 3 quarters ago. Started with 50mcg, went up to 100 a month later. I stayed at 100 until I was taken off it just a month ago. I was diagnosed after complaining of fatigue, irregular periods (usually about 6 months), and the horrible weight gain (I’m 14 now btw), oh and other things related, the usual stuff. This year I’ve had HORRIBLE headaches, I get headaches almost every day (and at school they are UNBEARABLE!) They go away with ibprofen, after just ten minutes. Anyway, about 5 weeks ago, I was taken off synthroid because my symptoms never went away, they intensified too sometimes (napping, when I get more then 8 hrs a night). Since I went to visit my dad in another state, I went to a different doctor which took me off synthroid because she wanted to test my blood without synthroid (appearently my family doctor didn’t get all the tests she wanted in the begining). She believes that my problem could not be related to thyroid at all. Anyway, with the synthroid gone, I expected to feel horrible, to gain more weight (I gained 20 pounds in 4 months before I was taken off), and be TIRED. I don’t feel this way. Sure, I’m a little tired, but not where I could fall asleep anywhere. I even lost a few pounds. This doctor isn’t great. (its a childrens hospital in baltimore, a well known one, so she should be good ;/). She thinks my irregular periods are because I’m overweight. But I think I’m overweight because of my health problems. I’m not a couch potato, guys. She wants me to see a nutritionist. My dad was explaining to her that I ate normally, maybe less, she doesn’t believe him (btw, my dad is obese, more then 6ft and 300 pounds).
So I’m wondering why I feel better now?
I’m going to get blood tests in a week or so, I have an appointment with my endo here.
Oh, and I’ve always thought I could have a pituitary problem. I’m short 5′2″ (well almost) and my mom is 5′5″ and my dad 6ft, like I said. So I’m short compaired to them. I started my period at 11, and my “puberty” was normal besides the periods(never normal), and the height (haven’t really grown since 6th grade, I’m in 10th now).
She said she doesn’t think its pituitary.
Oh yeah, my stomach is hairy ;x
That was long, so thanks for reading it all if you did.
If you didn’t catch the question:
Why do I feel better without my pills?
Yeah, i still get headaches, bad.

And its taken me a long long time to get the right balance.
THE BEST doctor Ive been to is an endocrinologist at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. Her name is Dr. Pam Schroeder. She is THE BEST!
